The MAME Settings screen appears in the GameEx Setup Wizard. This screen allows you to configure MAME for use within GameEx.
Configuration Options
Set the MAME paths.
Mame Path
- Specify or Select the folder MAME is in.
- Default:
- C:\Emulators\Mame32
MAME EXE
- Specify the filename of the mame executable. Example MAME.exe or MAME32.exe
- Default:
- Mame32.exe
Rom Path/s
- The path to your MAME roms. Multiple ROM paths can be entered separate with semicolons. Make sure there are no spaces between the semicolons and the paths.
- Default:
- C:\Emulators\Mame32\roms
Snap Path
- SnapPath. Location of Snap Images. JPG and PNG are supported. Zip files are NOT supported
- Default:
- C:\Emulators\Mame32\snap
Background Snap Path
- SnapPath. Location of Snap Images to show as the background image when GameEx is in the appropriate view mode
- Default:
- C:\Emulators\Mame32\backgroundsnap
Video Snap Path
- AVISnapPath. The following settings allow you to play videos in place of snapshots. Specify the path of the AVI files. If an avi file is found for a ROM it will be played instead of showing the snap. Go to http://tomspeirs.com for information on where to get game videos for MAME. MNG files can also be played back with GameEx. Specify the path to your MAME MNG files here. For MNG's GameEx will also try and play a corresponding MP3 file.

Flyer Path
- Locations of Flyer Images. JPG and PNG are supported. Zip files are NOT supported.

Cabinet Image Path
- Location of Cabinet Images. JPG and PNG are supported. Zip files are NOT supported.
- Default:
- C:\Emulators\Mame32\cabinets
3D Cabinet Path
- Location of 3D Cabinets. X Files are supported.
- Default:
- C:\Emulators\Mame32\cabinets3d
Marquee Path
- Location of Marquee Images. JPG and PNG are supported. Zip files are NOT supported.
- Default:
- C:\Emulators\Mame32\marquees
Panel Path
- Location of Panel Images. JPG and PNG are supported. Zip files are NOT supported.
- Default:
- C:\Emulators\Mame32\cpanel
Title Path
- Location of Title Images. JPG and PNG are supported. Zip files are NOT supported.

- C:\Emulators\Mame32\titles
PCB path
- Location of PCB Images. JPG and PNG are supported. Zip files are NOT supported.
- Default:
- C:\Emulators\Mame32\pcb
PCB path
- Location of MAME ICONS. ZIP files ARE NOT supported.

Artwork Preview Path
- Location of Artwork preview Images. JPG and PNG are supported. Zip files are NOT supported.

- C:\Emulators\Mame32\artworkpreview
Manual Path
- Location of Game Manuals in PDF format, ZIP Files ARE NOT supported. Registered Version Feature.
- Default:

Custom Lists Path
- Location of MAME 32 custom ini folders. GameEx supports the standard MAME32 .ini folders.
- Default:
- C:\Emulators\Mame32\CustomFolders
Favorites File
- Location of MAME 32 custom ini folders. GameEx supports the standard MAME32 .ini folders.
- Default:
- C:\Emulators\Mame32\Folders\Favorites.ini
Help Text
- If entered the text will show briefly as help when a game is launched.

Advance MAME Settings
Here you can set the advanced MAME settings in GameEx.
MAME Options
- Command Line options for when launching MAME.Tip if running on Media Center and on a widescreen TV, set '-resolution widthXheight' to your preferred widescreen resolution. If you have a fast video card newer versions of MAME support hardware acceleration using Direct3D. In this case it's recommended to use '-video d3d -noswitchres -triplebuffer' for fast video cards.

Use Start/Wait
- Put 'START/WAIT' before the MAME executable in the command line. This is required if running MAME32 on Windows 98/ME only. Otherwise set to False.

- Automatically bypass the Mame disclaimer and warning screens.

Use Bezel
- Enable and have GameEx use Bezel artwork for Vertical games on a horizontal display. You can modify the imagesused by changing mame.png and mask.png in the GameEx\Media\Bezel folder.

Enable MAME Info and History
- Show a More.. Item which displays text from MAMEInfo.dat and History.dat.

Auto Rotate
- Whether to automatically add the ROR or ROL command line options to rotate the MAME game based on GameEx rotation.

Run on Launch
- Shell the following command before launching a MAME or Zinc game. Leave blank to do nothing. The following square bracketted setting can be used in the command line:
- [ORESX] [ORESY] Original game X and Y Resolution
- [ARESX] [ARESY] Calculated ArcadeVGA game X and Y Resolution
- [GAME] The running MAME games name as displayed in the GameEx games list
- [ROM] The MAME ROM NAME
- [CONTROL] The control mode number as matched in controls.ini by controlmap.csv
- EXAMPLE 1: ShellBeforeLaunch = C:\SwitchRes.bat [ARESX] [ARESY]
- EXAMPLE 2: ShellBeforeLaunch = C:\SwithControl.bat [CONTROL]
Run on Exit
- Shell the following command after the game has exited. Leave blank to do nothing.
Show Vert/Horiz
- Filter the entire Games List for all available lists to just show Horizontal or Vertical Games.

Only Working Games
- Only list MAME games where the driver is known to be fully working. In addition AllowImperfect allows a driver status of IMPERFECT to pass as working. In newer versions of MAME, games such as Galaga have a Driver Status as IMPERFECT although run very well. Set AllowImperfect to True to allow these games not to be filtered when OnlyWorking is set to True. Default for AllowImperfect is True.

No Bracketed Text
- Don't Display game Version (Bracketed) info in the game list.For example if set to true '720 Degrees (rev 1)' Will appear in the list as '720 Degrees'. This is useful if running at a low resolution, as text won't get truncated. Use in conjunction with NoClones=True, to create a very clean looking list.

- Apply a filter to the MAME game list. Seperate words to filter on witha semi colan. Any game name descriptions that contain these words will not be shown in the game list if the GameFilterOn setting is enabled.

Excluded ROMs

Use CPWizard
- Use CPWizard instead of the GameEx internal control panel viewer. CPWizard is a control panel viewer/editor application written by Ben Baker.
